Electronics Assembly Step 1

Preparing the Load Cell

Instructions

1

Cut the load cell cable so that there is 15 cm of cable left off of the load cell.

2

Strip 4 cm of insulation off of the black load cell cable. There should be 10 pairs of wires (20 total) exposed from inside the cable. Do not unravel the pairs.

3

Strip 1-1.5 mm off of the 14 wires shown in the wiring code picture above.

4

Put 30 AWG crimps on the ends of the 14 load cell wires from the previous step using the Molex crimping tool. Refer to the video abover if unfamiliar with wire crimping

5

Match input and output channels of the load cell and strain gauge amplifier boar as shown in the schematic above.

6

Insert the 14 crimped wires into the 14 rectangular connector as shown above.

7

Insert the 14 rectuangular connector into the connector surface mount on the strain gauge amplifier board.

8

Solder 1 male pin Dupont wire to each wire on the 4 position cable. Make sure to cover the soldered joint with heat shrink tubing.

9

Insert the 4 position cable into the corresponding connector surface mount on the strain gauge amplifier board.

10

Plug the 4 male pin Dupon wires into the Raspberry Pi as shown in the schematic above.

Important Notes

1

Before unraveling the pairs of wires, refer to the wiring code above.

2

The Raspberry Pi pinout on the ribbon cable is horizontally flipped. This was accounted for in the wiring schematics so the pins should be plugged in as seen above.
